South African Inspired Underground Bar – Puza Bar

Melbourne has always been known for its amazing food and bars, it’s always hard to decide where to go when you want to enjoy something different because of what Melbourne has to offer, and now with the opening of Puza Bar in Chadstone Shopping Centre, it’s only going to get harder.

Opened by the successful steakhouse restaurant group, The Meat and Wine Co, Puza Bar will officially launch  on Thursday, the 13th of February

In keeping with the Meat & Wine Co’s South African roots, this exclusive underground bar is named after the Zulu word for ‘drink’ and inspired by the concept of ‘Puza Thursday’ –  a weekly celebration in South Africa marking the unofficial start to the weekend.

Tucked away beneath The Meat & Wine Co dining lounge, the space puts a modern twist on the traditional African watering hole with a layered series of circular seated areas, velvet accents and earthy décor.

On the drinks menu is a curated selection of unique blended cocktails alongside single malts, classic bourbons, boutique wines and sparkling varieties from around the globe. Snuggle in for an African Moon or a Jozi Groni cocktail with some small plates on the side: think artisanal cheese platters, cured meats and traditional South African snacks.

Ben Preston, Seagrass Senior Beverage Manager and curator of the Puza Bar menu comments, “The vision for Puza bar menu was to curate something that is comfortable, ambitious, and stylish and with an afro-centric twist. I wanted guests to be able to enjoy a variety of cocktails, delicious ‘Single Malt’ selection, familiar back bar players, boutique wines, beer and whisky”

Puza is a relaxing, intimate and underground bar, elegantly designed for the locals to enjoy in style, and on any occasion. It’s the perfect place for pre or post-dinner drinks or a casual venue when you have time to ‘unwind’ and navigate through the extensive beverage menu.
